“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:19
As Christians we are commanded to share our faith and testimony with others. While on earth Jesus told His disciples to “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation (Mark 16:15).” And in Acts 1:8, Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Most people fail to share Jesus with others because they are afraid of rejection, but if we truly understand the benefits of witnessing then that fear will be eliminated. There are 3 possibilities when you share your faith. They are:
1.The person makes a decision for Christ
2.A seed of the Gospel is planted
3.The person rejects the Gospel
As we read that list we automatically think that the first two possibilities are positive, yet the last possibility holds us back. However, if we look at God’s Word, we discover the last option has a positive result as well. I Peter 4:14 says “ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” When we are rejected for Christ, we are blessed by God! With this news we can boldly go and share our faith!
So now you may be asking, “What is my testimony?” Your testimony is what God is doing in your life and through your life. Just tell others what Jesus has done for you. Some questions to think about are:
1.What was life like before Christ?
2.How did I realize I was lost?
3.How did I realize I was saved?
4.What is God doing in my life right now?
Many times when we want to witness to someone, we are unsure of how to start the conversation. Just start by being friendly and find interests that you have in common with that person. Next, ask the person if they have a few minutes for you to share with them how your life has changed because of Christ. It is also helpful if you ask if there is anything in their life that they would like for you to pray about with them. Witnessing to others is something that God has commanded us to do, but it is a privilege to share with others the hope, joy, and peace you have found in Jesus. Pray that the Lord will give all of us a heart that loves people so much that we can do nothing less than share with others the abundant life they can have through Christ. Start sharing Jesus with others today!
