Dear Friend,
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalms 91:1
Over the last few weeks, the American economy has dealt a severe blow to thousands of families. All of us have felt the brunt blow of greed on Wall Street and by politicians and irresponsible leaders who have played games with our trust and used spin words to protect their own interests. It is devastating and should not be tolerated. However, I encourage all of us to avoid any reactive steps without careful thought. Americans are approaching the most crucial election of our lifetime. With the world in turmoil, our soldiers in the crosshairs of danger and the future of our children in jeopardy, I am imploring the Body of Christ to prayer.
If you are like me, only recently have you come to understand what is at stake for our country. This next president will preside over two to three Supreme Court judges who will sit in the place of judgment over the policies and laws for decades. Economic decisions will be made that will either attract companies and expansion or drive companies across the ocean or at least across the border. Religious freedom will continually be brought up during the next eight years in our country. Tax exempt status for churches and religious organizations will be constantly challenged, schools debating charters or vouchers, and the country's dependence on foreign oil will be huge issues.
The question comes down to this: Who will we vote for? You may not be as excited as you have been in the past over the choice of candidates and I know how you feel. I cannot endorse any candidate nor will I tell anyone who to vote for, but we must take charge of November 4th with a zeal for those ideals that we hold precious. As a believer, I am challenged to understand that my citizenship is in heaven. As an American, I have the responsibility to vote and understand that freedom gives us the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I looked into the eyes of my daughter this morning, I realized how precious of a gift is life. We must fight for the rights of those who are yet unborn.
Finally, I know that the economic condition has caught many off guard. Do not follow the paths of those around you. Choose to believe what God's Word says and not what the newspaper says. I challenge you to be a leader in your family, business, community and city with a mindset of being positive. This is not a license to be unwise or ignorant. We are called to be wise and understand the signs of the times, but we can trust the fact that our God has not been caught off guard. If we can help you during this time with prayer, or in any other way, please do not hesitate to ask.
